Authority
The wording displayed on a prediction card when it opens controls that specific question. These Standards and Practices govern when the card does not provide a more specific instruction.
Rules will not ordinarily be changed retroactively after a card opens. A published equal-treatment replacement ruling may add new questions before the original deadline when an official announcement compromises open preseason questions. Each card remains associated with the category-rules and Standards version governing its final question set.
Deadlines and submissions
The 2026 Preseason Board opens Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 6:00 PM Eastern and closes Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern. For system purposes, submissions stop at 12:00:00 AM Eastern on September 14.
The first weekly card opens Monday, September 21, 2026 at 6:00 PM Eastern. Every weekly card opens on the Monday before that Saturday's live broadcast at 6:00 PM Eastern and locks at 3:00 PM Eastern on broadcast Saturday. The Saturday lock leaves eight and a half hours before the live show.
Weekly scores will not be posted before 2:00 AM Eastern on Sunday and will be posted no later than 12:00 noon Eastern that Sunday. Scores are provisional during the challenge window below.
A player must receive an on-screen submission confirmation before the deadline. An incomplete card or unconfirmed submission is not submitted. Once submitted, preseason selections are locked unless Fantasy SNL announces a correction or reopening that applies equally to all players.
Announcements before the deadline
A preseason question is voided for all players if information published before the deadline reveals or conclusively determines its answer. This includes cast departures, cast additions or promotions, announced hosts or musical guests, scheduling announcements, and similar season information.
An official announcement is information published by NBC, Saturday Night Live, or a verified official account belonging to the person or act involved. Rumors, leaks, entertainment reporting, and unverified social-media posts do not count unless an official source confirms them. The official source's original publication time controls, even if the Commissioner sees it later.
When a question is voided
If an announcement reveals only part of a multi-part question, the entire question is voided unless the prediction card identified those parts as independently scored questions before it opened.
When several material questions are compromised while the preseason card is still open, the Commissioner may publish distinct replacement questions worth the same total points. Submitted players keep every unaffected call locked and receive one supplemental submission containing only the replacements. Original compromised selections and the ruling remain in the audit record.
Information announced after the preseason deadline resolves normally. All selections remain locked and are scored under the rules in effect when the card closed.
The scoring record
The original live United States broadcast is the controlling record for episode content, segment order, appearances, and performance classifications. Dress-rehearsal material, unaired material, reruns, promotional clips, and later streaming edits do not count unless a category specifically says otherwise.
Objective facts—including official announcements, broadcast order, identities, and counts—are established from the official source or broadcast record. Three scorers independently review subjective classifications. A two-of-three majority controls. A scorer with a direct conflict must abstain and be replaced. Ties remain ties unless the card published a tiebreaker before opening.
Role scoring · Standards 2026.4
These role definitions and the two-lead limit govern cards opened after this explanation was published on October 5, 2026 and marked Standards 2026.4 or later. They do not add a restriction to an earlier card. See how earlier cards are reviewed.
Judge responsibility for the comic premise, rather than line count, screen time, or the size of a laugh. A meaningful line does not automatically make someone a lead. Live sketches and pretaped comedy use the same role tests.
A segment may have zero, one, or two leads. Two leads must be co-equal carriers of the central premise; several substantial speaking parts do not make the whole cast leads. The role limit covers all performers, including the billed host and guests. A sketch is not required to have a lead.
Ensemble example: In a support-group sketch where participants take turns contributing to a shared premise and no individual carries it, meaningful contributors receive supporting credit. A brief isolated joke or reaction may qualify as minor. If one character's story or behavior drives the group's responses, that performer may instead be a lead. A facilitator or moderator is not automatically a lead merely because they introduce the scene.
Most prominent current cast member: Some predictions ask for the most prominent performer within the eligible cast. That performer can have a supporting role in the sketch overall, particularly when the host or a guest carries the premise. Winning that prediction does not automatically confer three-point Wildcard lead credit. The card's eligibility, co-equal-credit instructions, and point values control that prediction.
Wildcard points: A performer receives one base classification per qualifying segment. Weekend Update guest features earn 4 points; regular anchor work earns 2 for the whole Update block. A qualifying Cold Open lead or final-sketch lead earns an additional 1-point slot bonus. The weekly Wildcard total is capped at 18 points. Other categories use their own published point values.
Review: Three scorers independently review subjective role classifications using the original live United States broadcast; a two-of-three majority controls. An unusual ensemble ruling should explain which performers carry the premise and why the other roles are supporting or minor. The interpretation must be applied equally to every affected player.
The Season 52 preseason board and Weeks 1 and 2 retain their original card wording and Standards versions. The new two-lead limit is not imposed on those picks, including unresolved season-long predictions. Where earlier wording leaves a role classification unclear, the Commissioner and scoring panel use the closest existing rule, apply it equally to all players, and publish their reasoning under the existing review process. This guide does not itself finalize a classification or change an earlier score.
Holiday break reshuffle
During the holiday break, Fantasy SNL will open one reshuffle window. A player may revise up to three unresolved preseason questions that the card marks as reshuffle eligible. Questions already resolved, frozen, or voided cannot be changed.
An unchanged preseason answer keeps its full point value. A reshuffled answer is capped at 75% of that question's original maximum, rounded down to a whole point. The reshuffle's exact opening and closing times will be posted before the holiday break, and a player must receive an on-screen confirmation before that window closes.
Disputes and corrections
Ordinary score challenges may be submitted until the next live episode begins. Valid grounds include a factual error, calculation error, incorrect source, or inconsistent application of a published rule.
This October 6, 2026 policy amendment extends the review period for Episodes 1 and 2 as well as future episodes. It does not change their scoring rules. Scores & Rulings publishes episode decisions and deadlines. Holiday-break and season-finale calendar cutoffs will be posted when confirmed.

A correction applies to every affected player, not only the player who reported it. The Commissioner publishes the final ruling and a short explanation. The original result and correction remain in the audit record.
Seriously egregious errors may be contested until the holiday break begins for episodes in the first half of the season, and until the season finale ends for episodes in the second half. A seriously egregious error is a clear, substantial factual, calculation, transcription, or rule-application mistake; ordinary disagreements about subjective classifications use the regular deadline. After the applicable cutoff, results are final.
Technical problems
Players should report submission problems before the deadline. Screenshots of completed fields do not substitute for a confirmed submission.
If a platform-wide problem prevents submissions, the Commissioner may extend the deadline equally for all players. A deadline will not be extended after the relevant answer has become public. If an announcement occurs during an outage, the affected question is voided. Any deadline change must be posted before it takes effect.
Unforeseen situations and fair play
When no published rule covers a situation, the Commissioner and scoring panel apply the closest existing rule, treat all affected players equally, and publish the reasoning. A new general rule applies only to cards opened after it is published.
Each person may use only one player account. Players may not access another player's private selections, manipulate game records, exploit a known technical problem, or submit through another player's account. Report suspected vulnerabilities privately to contact@fantasysnl.com.
